Matthew Syed is the former number 1 table tennis player in the UK. Matthew is also a trustee of Greenhouse Sports, a charity that empowers young people from disadvantaged communities through sport. He is also a columnist for The Times, the author of several books like: Bounce, Black Box Thinking and You Are Awesome – and a former international table tennis champion.
He is, perhaps unsurprisingly, a strong believer that sporting and academic excellence are not mutually exclusive. Indeed, he argues that developing the body and mind provides a powerful synergy – a point well understood by the Ancient Greeks.
He will share his experience on becoming and staying the No. 1 in table tennis in the UK and why talent is not enough and success needs to be earned.
